In line with the Indonesian Government policy to develop the mineral downstream industry through processing and refining activities, Harum Energy assures that its extracted nickel ore is processed and refined into valuable products. Harum Energy produces nickel pig iron, nickel matte, and in the future, mixed hydroxide precipitate through its subsidiaries IMI, WMI, and BSE, and through associated entities, SNMI and NIC.
The nickel pig iron is produced from IMI and SNMI’ smelters. IMI’s smelter consisting of 2 rotary kiln electric furnace lines with an installed annual production capacity of approximately 28,000 ton of nickel (Ni) contained in nickel pig iron, and SNMI’s smelter consisting of 4 rotary kiln electric furnace lines with annual nameplate production capacity of approximately 55,000 ton of contained nickel equivalent metal (Ni) in the form of nickel pig iron.
The high-grade nickel matte is produced by WMI. WMI’s smelter consisting of 4 rotary kiln electric furnace lines with an installed annual production capacity of up to approximately 56,000 ton of nickel contained in high-grade nickel-matte product.
The mixed hydroxide precipitate will be produced through BSE’s High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL), which is designed to produce nickel-cobalt hydroxide intermediate product (MHP – Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate) with an annual installed production capacity of approximately 67,000 ton (±10%) of nickel equivalent and approximately 7,500 ton (±10%) of cobalt.
** MHP’s production is targeted to start in early 2026.
The processed/refined nickel products produced by Harum Energy is indicatively set out in the following table:
Indicative Specifications of Various Nickel Products Produced | IMI | WMI | BSE* |
---|---|---|---|
Product Name | Nickel Pig Iron (NPI) | High Grade Nickel Matte | Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) |
Nickel Content (%) | ±14-18% | ±73-76% | ±35-40% |
Cobalt Content (%) | 0% | ±0.5-1% | ±5-6% |
